The road south through six states

This is one of the longest household runs in the country. The truck leaves Delhi, crosses Haryana and Rajasthan, cuts through Madhya Pradesh, spends a long stretch in Maharashtra and finishes in Karnataka. No single highway carries it. The fastest road route on OpenStreetMap strings several together:

• NE4, the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, for about 490 km. Parts of it are still being finished, so drivers use the open sections and ordinary highways around the rest.
• NH50 for about 310 km.
• NH52 and NH561A for about 270 km each.
• NH48 for about 210 km.

For a sense of progress, Bhawani Mandi comes up about 510 km out of Delhi, Malegaon at roughly 1,010 km and Vijayapura at around 1,520 km. The country changes a lot on the way, from the flat north through the plateau of central India to the dry, open Deccan in north Karnataka. That matters for packing. Over 2,020 km a load settles and shifts with every rough patch, so we pack heavy cartons low and wrap furniture edges twice, and nothing loose goes on top of the stack.

Why about 24 hours of driving turns into 6–9 days

Routing on OpenStreetMap puts the pure driving time at about 24 hours. A loaded truck never covers it like that, and here's where the extra days go:

1. Packing takes a day for most 2 BHK homes, and bigger houses need a second.
2. Heavy trucks are kept off many Delhi roads for much of the day, so the loaded vehicle often sets off when the city lets goods traffic through.
3. Goods vehicles run well below car speeds, and a driver covering 2,020 km needs sleep and meal breaks.
4. A shared truck adds stops to pick up or drop other loads.
5. In Bangalore, unloading has to fit your society's move-in hours and lift booking.

So plan on living out of a suitcase for about a week. Most families fly down, get the new flat cleaned and wait for the truck. Your move manager tells you the dispatch day before loading and calls when the truck is a day away, which gives you time to book the service lift.

Sharing a truck or booking one outright?

On a run this long the choice matters more than usual. A shared truck is cheaper because you pay for the space your goods take, not the whole vehicle. The catch is time. The truck waits in Delhi until it's full, and it may drop other families' goods somewhere in Maharashtra or Karnataka before reaching you, so the later end of 6–9 days is more likely. Your cartons also get moved around each time something else comes off.

A dedicated truck leaves once your home is loaded and goes straight to your address. It costs more, but for a 3 BHK, a family with a school start date or anyone sending antiques, it's usually worth it. With either option you can ask for the Trucking Cube, a lockable container where you keep the keys, so nobody opens your things on the way.

Paperwork and tolls for a six-state run

The truck crosses a lot of toll plazas between Delhi and Bangalore, all paid by FASTag. Toll costs belong in the freight, so check that your quote says so instead of adding them later. Household goods moved for personal use don't normally need a GST e-way bill. Even so, keep a signed inventory and a copy of your ID with the driver's papers, since officials at state borders sometimes ask what's being carried.

If your car is coming, it goes on a car carrier with copies of the RC, insurance and PUC. Moving it to Karnataka for good generally means an NOC from Delhi and re-registration there, and people who qualify can look at the BH series instead. Our car transport page explains the handover inspection.

Which months are easiest on this road?

February, March, October and November are usually the smoothest. From April to June, Rajasthan and central India get extremely hot, and a closed truck turns into an oven. Candles, cosmetics, medicines, vinyl records and anything with wax or adhesive should travel with you, not in the load. July to September brings monsoon rain across Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra, so every carton and mattress is wrapped in plastic before it leaves the flat. December and January have a different problem, which is dense fog on the plains around Delhi and Haryana that slows the first night's driving. Diwali and month-end weeks fill trucks fast, so book early if your date falls there.

Leaving a Delhi home and arriving at a Bangalore society

At the Delhi end the question is usually whether a long-haul truck can reach your gate. In many colonies it can't, so goods go out to the main road in a smaller vehicle and are loaded there, which the surveyor works out in advance. At the other end, most apartment associations want a move-in intimation, a lift booking and sometimes the rental agreement or sale deed before goods come in.
