When does storage make sense?

Usually when there's a gap between moving out and moving in. Sometimes you've just run out of room. It helps when:

• the new flat or office isn't ready on your moving date
• you're going abroad or on a temporary posting and want your furniture kept in India
• the house is being renovated or painted
• a business needs space for surplus stock, old records or spare office furniture

It also takes the pressure off. You don't have to rush into a new home just because your lease is ending. Move out on time and take delivery when you're ready. You can store for as long as you need, and storage can be added to a domestic move or an international relocation.

What happens to your goods at our warehouse

1. Packing and pickup. Our own staff pack the goods for storage and bring them to the warehouse.
2. Inspection. Every consignment is checked when it arrives, before it's stored.
3. Palletised storage. Goods sit in palletised boxes, not piled loosely on the floor.
4. Labelling. Each box is labelled so it can be identified and pulled out easily.
5. Delivery. When you're ready, we deliver to whichever address you give us.

Storing for a family and storing for a business

Families mostly store furniture, appliances and packed cartons during a move, a renovation or a posting away from home. For a business, the warehouse is part of the supply chain. It controls how goods are stored and dispatched, so stock, equipment and records stay safe until they're needed. If you're shifting premises, our office relocation team can send surplus furniture straight into storage.

Everyone handling goods in the warehouse is a trained employee. They follow standard warehouse processes, plus specific procedures for different kinds of goods.

How long you store changes how you should pack. A few days or weeks, say while you wait for possession of a new flat or for a lease to start, is the simple case. Months at a stretch (a posting abroad, a long renovation, a business that needs extra space) calls for more care. Furniture should be wrapped, cartons sealed properly, and appliances cleaned and dried so they come out in good shape. Your move manager will tell you how to pack for the period you pick.

Getting things ready for storage

• Clean and dry furniture and appliances first. Defrost the fridge and empty it completely.
• Don't store perishable food, plants, gas cylinders, fuel, paint or chemicals.
• Cash, jewellery and important documents should stay with you.
• Keep a copy of the storage inventory so you know what's in each labelled box.
