Getting the truck to your door in Patna
Most of the planning for a Patna move happens before a single carton is packed. Heavy trucks have no-entry hours inside the city for a good part of the day, so a big vehicle can't simply drive up Bailey Road at noon. We time the loading around those hours, and on some jobs the main truck waits on a wider road while a smaller tempo brings goods out to it.
Old Patna is its own story. In Patna City and the lanes off Ashok Rajpath, a full-size truck won't get near your gate, so the crew carries things out to a small vehicle first. Flats on Boring Road, in Patliputra Colony or around Raja Bazar are easier, but the society may want a lift booking and a letter from you before we start. Tell us about both buildings during the free survey. It's much cheaper to plan for a narrow staircase than to discover it at seven in the morning.
What if it pours on moving day?
July to September is the tricky stretch. Kankarbagh, Rajendra Nagar and a few other low-lying pockets can sit under water for hours after a heavy shower, and a loaded truck doesn't do well on a flooded road. If your date falls in these months, keep it a little flexible. Your move manager watches the weather with you and will push the slot by a few hours, or a day, rather than load in the rain.
The packing changes too. Mattresses, sofas and the TV get a waterproof outer layer on top of our usual 4-layer packing, and wooden furniture goes under Fabric Sheet covers. Everything then travels in the closed Trucking Cube, which you lock yourself. A shower on the highway won't reach your cartons.
Chhath is the other week we'd steer you away from. Roads towards the ghats get closed off and traffic near Gandhi Maidan crawls, so a few days before or after is a far easier time to shift.
Leaving Patna for a new job or a transfer
A lot of Patna moves start with a transfer letter or an offer from another city. Varanasi is about 250 km and Ranchi about 320 km, and both usually take 1–2 days door to door. Lucknow (about 510 km) and Kolkata (about 580 km) take 2–3 days. Delhi is roughly 1000 km and takes 3–5 days, while Bangalore, at about 2040 km, needs 6–9 days, so plan your own travel and a few days of basic kitchen things around that. Heading into north Bihar instead? The truck crosses the Ganga on Gandhi Setu or the J.P. Setu from Digha, and bridge jams are common enough that we add a buffer. Cars go on a car carrier. Bikes ride on our Bike Stand, which holds both tyres so the bike can't lean or slide, and if the new flat isn't ready we can keep your things in storage until it is.
A few things to sort out before we arrive
- Keep one bag aside with documents, jewellery, medicines, chargers and a change of clothes. It travels with you, not in the truck.
- Ask the neighbours or the society to keep space free outside the gate for the loading vehicle.
- Empty and defrost the fridge the night before.
- If you're vacating government quarters, fix the handover date with the estate office early.
