What the rains do to a Patna move

- Put electronics, documents and mattresses on the highest surface in the house

- Seal certificates, property papers and photo albums in zip bags before they go into a carton
We pack soft goods with a plastic layer over the usual 4-layer packing and seal every carton seam, so a splash or a wet floor doesn't soak through. Still, raised is always better than wrapped. A carton sitting in two inches of water will lose that fight eventually.
Choosing dates with room to spare
Build flexibility in from the start. Tell your landlord or the estate office that you may need a day either side of the handover, and don't book the new society's unloading slot so tightly that one wet morning wrecks it. For a rainy-season move we usually suggest this sequence:

Talk to the other side early as well. A landlord in Boring Road or a society manager in Saguna More who knows you might arrive a day late is usually fine about it. One who expected you at ten on Tuesday and hears nothing is not. A short message the evening before, confirming the plan or the backup, keeps everyone patient.
Loading from narrow lanes in the old city
Patna City, the lanes behind Ashok Rajpath and older pockets around Kadamkuan and Mithapur already make loading slow in dry weather. Add rain, and the carry from door to vehicle becomes the hardest part of the day.
We look for a loading spot on higher ground, even if it means a longer walk, because a truck that sinks into a soft verge or stands in water is worse than a few extra minutes of carrying. A smaller vehicle shuttles goods out of the lane to it. Big pieces move during a break in the rain, cartons go under a tarpaulin, and wet steps get old sacks or a mat laid over them so nobody slips with an almirah on their shoulder.

Moving into a new home during the rains
If you're the one moving in, ask about water before you sign. Neighbours will tell you how high it came last season, whether the building's parking floods and how long the road stays blocked. A ground-floor flat can still be a good choice, but you'll want beds and almirahs on raised legs and nothing valuable stored at floor level.
On delivery day, unload into rooms that are dry, and open cartons of clothes and books within a day or two. Damp trapped inside a sealed carton turns into a musty smell quickly in Patna's humidity. Run the fans, wipe down wooden furniture before it goes against a wall, and check the back panels of almirahs for water marks.
