Vizag is squeezed between the Eastern Ghats and the sea, so parts of the city climb. Some streets in Waltair Uplands and Seethammadhara have steep approaches where a loaded truck struggles, and we sometimes park on the main road and use a smaller vehicle for the last bit. The newer towers in Madhurawada, PM Palem, Yendada and along Beach Road bring the usual apartment rules instead: lift booking, fixed hours and very little parking. We confirm a loading spot with the building before the day.

Traffic needs planning of its own. NAD Junction and Maddilapalem are heavy at peak hours, and the markets around Jagadamba Centre, One Town and Gajuwaka are best done early. A move from Dwaraka Nagar to Madhurawada, or from Gajuwaka out to Anakapalli, is a long drive across town, so we start early and aim to finish in one trip. In heavy rain those steep roads get slippery, which is one more reason to keep a little flexibility in your date during the wet months.

Why does sea air matter for packing?

Salt in the air rusts metal furniture, appliances and cycles, and damp marks wood. You can help too. Wipe metal almirahs and appliances dry before packing day, and don't mop the floors that morning until the cartons are out.

Then there's the cyclone season, mostly October to December and now and then in April or May. If a warning comes out for your moving date, your move manager will suggest another day rather than load in bad weather. January to March is usually the calmest time to move.

The port, the Eastern Naval Command, the steel plant township at Ukkunagaram and the pharma and industrial zones around Parawada and Atchutapuram keep people moving in and out of Vizag all year.
