Why not just drive it there?

You can, but a long drive puts kilometres on the odometer and wear on the tyres and engine, and you'll pay for fuel and tolls on top. It also takes days you probably can't spare in the middle of a move. On a carrier, the car is driven on, fastened down and delivered without being driven down the highway at all.

People use car transport for other reasons too. Maybe you've bought a car in another city, or you're sending one to a family member, or there's simply nobody free to do the drive.

One thing we don't do is load cars in with household goods. Each car goes separately, handled by people who are used to working with vehicles, on carriers built to keep it steady and free of scratches. That's the same for a short move within the NCR, a move out of Gurgaon or a move between any two cities in India.

What happens from pickup to delivery

1. Quote. Tell us the pickup city, destination and car model, and we'll send you a written quote.
2. Condition check. Before loading, we record any existing scratches or dents together with you.
3. Loading. The car is driven onto the carrier and secured so it can't move on the road.
4. Transit. Your move manager keeps you updated until it arrives.
5. Delivery. You check the car against the condition report before you accept it.

Getting the car ready

Take everything personal out of the cabin and the boot, including loose accessories and valuables. Leave roughly a quarter tank of fuel and no more. Make sure the battery's charged and the tyres are properly inflated, and take dated photos of the car from every side. Then hand over one key along with copies of the documents listed below.

When the car reaches you, look it over in good light before you sign anything. Compare it with your photos and the pickup report, check the odometer, and raise any concern right there.

Which documents should you keep ready?

Keep copies of these handy. They show the car belongs to you and is legally allowed on the road.

• Registration Certificate (RC)
• A valid motor insurance policy
• Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate
• Your ID proof, plus a transfer or joining letter if you're moving for work

If the car is going to stay in another state for more than 12 months, you'll generally need to re-register it there. For that you need a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the RTO where it was originally registered.
