Kothis, tricity high-rises and hill-town moves, packed by our own crew

Moving across the tricity

Chandigarh's sector numbers make it hard to get lost, but very few moves here stay inside one city. A family goes from a kothi in Sector 35 to a flat in Mohali Sector 70, or from Panchkula to a new tower in Zirakpur or New Chandigarh. On paper you've crossed from a Union Territory into Punjab or Haryana. For household goods that changes nothing, and it's still a local move. For your car, it may mean a visit to the RTO later.

The kind of house matters more. Older sectors are full of independent houses where the ground floor is easy, but the first and second floors are reached by a narrow outside staircase. Big double beds and sofas sometimes have to be taken apart to come down. The high-rises in Mohali, Zirakpur and Kharar have lifts, but they also have society permissions and fixed moving hours. We check which one you've got during the free pre-move survey and send the right number of people.

When is a good time to shift in Chandigarh?

October, November, February and March are the comfortable months. May and June regularly cross 40°C, so on those days we start loading early and try to finish before the afternoon heat. In December and January, dense fog on the highways towards Delhi and Ambala slows long-distance trucks, and we build that into your delivery estimate instead of promising a day we can't keep.

Traffic around the Zirakpur flyover, Tribune Chowk and Airport Road is heavy at office hours, so we time the truck for the gaps. Defence families at Chandimandir and doctors joining or leaving PGI often have a fixed reporting date. Tell us that date on the first call and your move manager plans backwards from it.

Hill towns, offices and the moving-day bag

Shimla, Solan and Kasauli are close, but hill roads need a smaller truck and goods tied down tighter than usual. Monsoon landslides, and sometimes snow in winter, can close stretches of road, so we check conditions before sending anyone up. Offices in Sector 17, the IT Park and Industrial Area Phase I and II are usually moved over a weekend.

Whatever you're moving, keep these with you and not in the truck:

  • jewellery, cash and cheque books
  • property papers, passports and school certificates
  • daily medicines and clothes for a couple of days
  • phone chargers and the keys to the new place

Everything else is packed by our own trained crew, with 4-layer packing on breakables and our Fabric Sheet over furniture. For long trips a full household can go into the Trucking Cube, a lockable container whose keys stay with you. How a home move runs, step by step, is on our household shifting page.

Distances and transit times from Chandigarh

Shimla is about 110 km away, Dehradun about 170 km and Delhi about 270 km. Gurugram is about 310 km and Jammu about 350 km. All of these usually take 1–2 days, and that's more about loading windows and city entry timings than the drive itself. Jaipur is further, at about 470 km, and takes 2–3 days.

We also shift families to and from Kharar, Dera Bassi, Pinjore, Kalka and Ambala. Moving into the capital? See our Delhi page.

Moving in Chandigarh: frequently asked questions

Straight answers to the questions customers ask us most.

How is the cost of a tricity move worked out?

It's based on your load, the distance and the access at both houses. Outside staircases, lift bookings, parking and any furniture that has to be dismantled all count, along with extras like car transport or storage. We visit for a free pre-move survey first and then give you a written quote, so the price is clear before you confirm.

Is Chandigarh to Mohali or Panchkula a local move?

Yes. Any move within the tricity, including Zirakpur, Kharar and New Chandigarh, is treated as a local shift, and most are packed, moved and unloaded the same day. Household goods don't need special paperwork even though you're crossing into Punjab or Haryana, but do update your address and check vehicle registration rules afterwards.

How long does a move from Chandigarh to Delhi take?

Usually 1–2 days. Delhi is about 270 km by road, so the drive isn't long, but heavy trucks can only use many Delhi roads at certain hours. Winter fog can slow things down as well. Your move manager fixes a delivery slot with you before the truck leaves Chandigarh.

Can you move my household to Shimla or Kasauli?

Yes. For hill towns we choose a vehicle that suits the road and tie everything down firmly for the bends. Shimla is about 110 km and usually takes 1–2 days. In the monsoon, and now and then after snowfall, we check road conditions before dispatch and may suggest another day if a stretch is closed.

Can you shift my car from Chandigarh to another state?

Yes, by car carrier, and bikes go on our Bike Stand so they can't tip over. Keep the RC and insurance papers with you. If you're leaving Chandigarh, Punjab or Haryana for good, ask the RTO about the no-objection certificate and re-registration in your new state before you book the transport.
