Trucking Cube

Where the idea came from

In a normal move, cartons and furniture are loaded loosely into a truck, and that's where a lot of transport problems start. We built the Trucking Cube to solve them. Your household or office goods are packed into a container strong enough to take shipment, storage and handling.

The idea is borrowed from the intermodal containers used in national and international trade. Those are designed to pass from one mode of transport to another without anyone unloading and reloading the goods inside. The Cube applies the same thinking to a house or office move. It's one of our four in-house innovations. The other three are the Perfect Box, the Fabric Sheet and the Bike Stand.

Who holds the keys?

You do. That's the main point of the Trucking Cube. Once your goods are loaded, you fit your own lock on the container and keep the keys. Access to your belongings stays with you until the container reaches you, which counts for a lot on a long-distance move.

Two small things to remember. Keep the keys somewhere that travels with you, never inside the packed goods. And make sure someone with a key is at the new address on delivery day, or unloading can't start. If you'll reach the new city after the container does, leave a spare key with someone you trust there.

What a locked container gives you

• Control. It's your lock on the door, and the keys don't leave your hands.
• Less handling. Goods stay in the container instead of being unloaded and reloaded, and fewer touches mean fewer chances of damage.
• Storage. The container is built for storage as well as transport, which helps if the new home isn't ready. Our warehousing page has more on that.
• Strength. It's made to stand up to the stresses of shipment and handling.

Since it's closed and locked, road dust and bad weather stay outside too. And because you saw it loaded and locked it yourself, you know what's inside when it arrives.

Is the Trucking Cube right for your move?

It suits families on a long intercity move who want the added security, and businesses sending valuable equipment or records. It also works with our other innovations. Crockery can go in the Perfect Box, and furniture can be wrapped in the Fabric Sheet before it's loaded into the Cube.

Booking it works like any other move with us. We do a free pre-move survey and give you a written quote upfront. On moving day our own trained staff pack everything in 4 layers and load the container. You lock it, keep the keys and open it yourself at your new address. Mention the Cube when you contact us, and after the survey we'll tell you if it suits your move.
