Moving to Rudrapur for a SIDCUL job is simpler than most metro moves. Choose a colony that fits your shift timings and the staff bus route, book the survey in Delhi or Gurgaon early, and expect 1–2 days in transit for the roughly 240 km drive from Delhi. Small machines move on a separate plan, after your own team disconnects them.
- Pick a Rudrapur colony around shift timings and staff bus stops, not rent alone.
- Delhi is about 240 km and Gurgaon about 270 km from Rudrapur; both are usually 1–2 day moves.
- Small machines, test rigs and instruments need your team's disconnection and their own packing plan.
- Winter fog and monsoon rain on the plains can push delivery times, so keep a buffer day.
Where SIDCUL employees tend to live
Rudrapur grew quickly once the industrial estate at Pantnagar filled up, and most people who work there live within a short drive of it. Older colonies such as Awas Vikas, Adarsh Colony, Civil Lines and Model Colony have independent houses and builder floors for rent, with markets and schools close by. Newer apartment projects and gated colonies have come up along the main roads out of town, including Kichha Road, Nainital Road and Kashipur Bypass Road.
Some families choose Haldwani for its schools and the hills close by, and do the daily drive. Others settle in Kichha or Gadarpur because a spouse works there or relatives already live nearby.
Before you lock in a house, get a few answers from HR or a colleague who's been here a while:
- Does the plant run a staff bus, and where does it stop?
- What are your shift timings? A rotating night shift changes which roads you'd rather not drive.
- Is company accommodation or a lease arrangement offered for the first few months?
- How good is the power backup in the building you like? Ask the neighbours, not the broker.
Not sure yet? Plenty of people take a furnished room or the company guest house for the first month and keep their goods in storage until they've seen a few colonies, and sat through a rainy week in each. For local shifting and the areas we cover, see packers and movers in Rudrapur.
Moving from Delhi or Gurgaon to Rudrapur
On most NCR-to-Rudrapur jobs, packing is the hard part and the drive is the easy one. High-rises in Gurgaon and Noida want a service-lift booking, a gate pass for the truck and often a no-dues letter from the maintenance office before goods can leave. Start that paperwork the week before, not the evening before.
Delhi also limits when goods vehicles can use many of its roads, so the truck's arrival for loading is fixed around those rules rather than around your convenience. Tell the move manager if your building only allows moving on certain days, and we'll match the two. Hand back parking stickers, access cards and remotes to the maintenance office on the last day, or the no-dues letter can get stuck.
Delhi is about 240 km from Rudrapur and Gurgaon about 270 km, and both are normally 1–2 day moves. A common plan is to pack on one day, load that evening if the building allows it, and deliver the following morning, which suits people who've been asked to join on a Monday. Our Gurgaon moving page explains how the pickup end works there.
Going from a metro flat to a Rudrapur house often means more space, not less. You may suddenly have a spare room, a roof and a small courtyard, so this is one move where you don't need to sell furniture in a hurry. Bring the treadmill and the extra almirah if you want them.
Your car can come on a car carrier, or you can drive it up yourself. If you're staying on, a vehicle registered in Delhi or Haryana has to be re-registered in Uttarakhand once you've lived here for more than 12 months.
What about shifting small machines and test equipment?
Not every SIDCUL relocation is a household. Engineers setting up a new line, vendors moving a small unit closer to the plants they supply, and quality teams bringing instruments from another site all need equipment moved. We're talking about benchtop presses, small lathes or CNC machines, compressors, test rigs, tool cabinets, gauges and racks of dies and fixtures, rather than full production lines.
The rule is simple. Your maintenance team disconnects power, air and coolant lines and confirms each machine is safe to move. Then we survey, work out how each item will be lifted and plan the packing around its weight.
- Drain coolant and oil, and lock or tie down spindles, tables and slides.
- Coat bare machined surfaces with rust-preventive oil, because the Terai air stays damp for months.
- Photograph the wiring and label every cable before it's pulled out.
- Pack instruments in their original cases where possible, with cushioning around them.
- Mark the floor space at the new bay and have power points ready before the truck arrives.
- Book recalibration for sensitive instruments afterwards, since road vibration can throw them off.
If the new bay isn't ready, equipment can wait in storage, covered and logged.
Relocating several employees at once
When a new line starts or a plant expands, HR sometimes has several families arriving within a few weeks. The tricky part is scheduling. Two trucks can't share one service lift in Gurgaon on the same morning, and three families can't all have Sunday delivery in Rudrapur. We stagger the pickups, share a simple calendar with the admin team and flag clashes early.
It also helps to be clear about who pays for what. Some companies cover packing and transport but not car transport or storage. It's better for the employee to hear that at the survey than to find out when the bill arrives.
Some transfers come from much further away. Pune is about 1560 km from Rudrapur and a 5–7 day move, so the employee may need a week in a guest house before the goods turn up. Planning that stay at the same time as the move saves a lot of last-minute calls.
Weather on the plains and your delivery date
Rudrapur sits in the Terai at the foot of the Kumaon hills, and the weather shapes a move here more than people expect. Summers are hot and sticky. The monsoon, from late June into September, brings heavy spells that can waterlog lower roads for a few hours, so cartons get a waterproof outer layer in those months.
In December and January, dense morning fog lies across the plains and slows trucks on the highway, so we plan deliveries for later in the day. The easiest months are usually October, November, February and March. If your joining date falls in the fog season, don't plan to unpack and report to the plant on the same day.
Household goods travel in our lockable Trucking Cube, and you keep the keys until it's opened at your new Rudrapur door.

Rudrapur moving questions, answered
Where should I live in Rudrapur if I work at SIDCUL Pantnagar?
Most employees live in Rudrapur town, in colonies like Awas Vikas, Adarsh Colony, Civil Lines or Model Colony, or in newer projects along Kichha Road, Nainital Road and Kashipur Bypass Road. Some commute from Haldwani. Check the staff bus route and your shift timings first, because those decide the daily commute more than distance does.
How long does shifting from Gurgaon to Rudrapur take?
Usually 1–2 days for the roughly 270 km drive. Packing in a Gurgaon high-rise depends on the service-lift booking and the gate pass, so arrange those early. In December and January, morning fog can slow the highway, and heavy monsoon rain can delay unloading. Your move manager confirms the dispatch and delivery plan with you.
Can you move a small machine or test rig to a unit in SIDCUL?
Yes. Your technicians disconnect the machine and make it safe, and then we survey it, plan the lifting, pack it for its weight and move it to the new bay. Drain fluids, lock moving parts and label cables beforehand. Sensitive instruments should be recalibrated after the move, and the new floor space should be ready before delivery.
Do I need to re-register my car after moving to Uttarakhand?
If you bring a car registered in another state and live in Uttarakhand for more than 12 months, it has to be re-registered here. That usually involves a no-objection certificate from the original transport office. The exact documents and fees are set by the transport department, so check with the local transport office in Rudrapur before you start.
Can HR book moves for several employees together?
Yes. Each employee gets a survey at their current home and a written quote laid out the same way, and one move manager coordinates the dates so pickups and deliveries don't clash. Tell us early which costs the company covers, such as car transport or storage, so everyone knows what's included well before packing day.
