House Shifting Cost in Ahmedabad
Local moves, east bank to west
Moving house within Ahmedabad typically costs ₹3,500–₹8,000 for a 1BHK, ₹6,000–₹13,500 for a 2BHK and ₹9,000–₹21,000 for a 3BHK at market rates, before GST. Older flats without a lift, homes deep in the pols and moves across the river cost more than a short shift between two SG Highway towers. The table shows typical market ranges compiled from published price guides, and GST at 18% GST is added on top. It isn't Skynet's rate card. These figures fit a short move with reasonable access, for example Vastrapur to Bodakdev. The spread comes mostly from access and distance. A third-floor flat in an older Naranpura scheme with no lift, or a house in the walled city where the truck can't enter, lands near the top. Moves from Nikol or Vastral out to Shela or Gota also cost more because of the long drive.
What changes the price in Ahmedabad
Older flats without lifts
Plenty of older four-storey flat schemes in Naranpura, Paldi, Maninagar and Ambawadi were built without lifts. Every cupboard, fridge and carton goes down by hand, and a double bed with a box storage base may need to come apart. That labour is where much of the price gap sits between two homes of the same size.
Pols and the walled city
Houses in the pols around Kalupur, Shahpur and Jamalpur sit on lanes too tight for a truck, and sometimes for a tempo. Goods go out by hand or handcart to a vehicle on the main road, which means extra helpers and double handling. That's how a small pol house can cost as much to move as a bigger flat in Satellite.
East to west across the river
Nikol, Naroda or Vastral on the east side to Bopal, Shela or Gota on the west is a long run through city traffic and over one of the Sabarmati bridges. Moves like these keep the truck and crew out much longer than Prahlad Nagar to Satellite, so quotes usually land above the short-move ranges in the table.
High-rise societies on the west side
Newer towers around SG Highway, South Bopal and Science City come with service lifts, but also booking rules, fixed moving hours and sometimes a society deposit. A tight lift slot means a bigger crew to finish on time. Ask the society office for the rules in writing before you collect quotes, so movers can price the right crew.
Heat and monsoon waterlogging
From April to June the heat slows everyone down, loading starts early, and a large house may need a second session. In July and August heavy rain fills underpasses like Parimal and Akhbarnagar, which can stall a truck and add waiting time. Movers also use extra plastic in the monsoon, so packing material costs a little more.
Navratri, Diwali and Kamurta
During Navratri many societies use their common plots for garba in the evenings, so parking a truck inside gets harder. After Diwali a lot of businesses and workers take a break until Labh Pancham, and crews are scarce. Kamurta, when many Gujarati families put off new beginnings, has the opposite effect and can make booking easier.
Add-on price guide
Within the city| Extra | Typical market range |
|---|---|
| Transit insurance | 2–3% of declared value |
| Storage, 2 BHK load, per month | ₹3,000–₹4,000 |
| Stairs with no lift, per floor | ₹300–₹700 |
| Unpacking and arranging at the new home | ₹1,000–₹5,500 |
| Split AC uninstall and reinstall, per unit | ₹2,200–₹3,000 |
| GST on the bill | 18% (5% if only transport is billed) |
What usually costs extra
- Hand carry from pol lanes. Extra helpers and a handcart or small tempo to bring goods out to the truck on the main road.
- Swing and fixture removal. Taking down a hichko, curtain rods and wall-mounted TVs, then putting them up again at the new home.
- AC removal and refitting. Plenty of homes here run several ACs through summer, and each unit is usually billed separately for removal and refitting.
- Stair carrying. No-lift flats on upper floors often get a per-floor labour charge for the extra carrying.
- Storage. Useful when possession of a new flat in Shela or Gota is delayed. A 2BHK load typically costs ₹3,000–₹4,000 a month monthly.
- Transit insurance. Optional cover for your goods while they're on the road, usually 2–3% of the declared value.
- GST. Added to the bill at 18% GST. Ask for a tax invoice if you'll claim the move from an employer.
What a local Ahmedabad quote should list
A proper written quote for a move in Ahmedabad breaks the price into parts, so you can see where the money goes. Look for these lines.
- Packing and material, with the kind of cartons and wrap used for glass, electronics and furniture
- Labour, including any stair carrying from a no-lift flat
- Vehicle, its size, and any shuttle tempo for a pol or a narrow society lane
- Dismantling and refitting for beds, the hichko, ACs and wall-mounted TVs
- Storage, insurance and GST as separate lines
If a quote is just one figure, ask for the breakdown. Two quotes that look far apart often turn out closer once you see what each one leaves out, and the cheaper one sometimes has the most missing.
When to book in Ahmedabad
The weeks after Uttarayan through to early March are usually the easiest, with pleasant weather and normal demand. Kamurta periods can free up crews because fewer families move then. Avoid the Diwali break, when many workers are away, and Navratri evenings if your society hosts garba in the compound. Month-end is busy all year round. For moves between Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar, allow for the longer drive and check the timings at both societies. Our Ahmedabad page covers how we plan these moves.
Tenements and bungalow societies
Ahmedabad has a lot of tenements and bungalow societies, from Isanpur and Vejalpur to Thaltej and Bodakdev. The truck can usually pull up at the gate, which helps. But these homes tend to hold more than a flat with the same number of bedrooms. A loft, a terrace store room, the hichko, garden pots and old steel cupboards all add volume, and volume decides the truck size. A four-bedroom bungalow is priced in the villa range of ₹10,500–₹31,000 at market rates, and emptying the loft before the survey is the easiest way to pull that figure down.

House shifting cost in Ahmedabad: frequently asked questions
Straight answers to the questions customers ask us most.
What does a 2BHK house shift within Ahmedabad cost?
At market rates, a local 2BHK move usually costs around ₹6,000–₹13,500, plus GST at 18% GST. A short move between societies with lifts sits low in that range. A no-lift flat, a pol house the truck can't reach, or a long run from the east side to Shela or Gota moves it up. Once our surveyor has walked through your home, we confirm the price in writing.
Is a move to Gandhinagar or GIFT City priced as a local shift?
Usually, yes. Gandhinagar and GIFT City are close enough to be handled as local moves, but the extra distance adds truck time and fuel compared with a move inside Ahmedabad. Expect a quote above the short-move ranges in the table. Tower rules at the new address can also fix the unloading hours, so check them first.
Are crews harder to find after Diwali in Ahmedabad?
Yes, for about a week. Many businesses and workers in Gujarat take the Diwali break until Labh Pancham, so fewer crews and trucks are available. If you need to move then, book early and confirm the crew and vehicle in writing. Otherwise, a date a week or two after Labh Pancham is usually easier to get.
Is AC removal included in the shifting price?
Usually not. Taking down a split AC and refitting it at the new home is technician work, so most movers list it per unit as an extra. A gas top-up, if needed, is charged separately again. In Ahmedabad, where many homes have several ACs, this line can add up, so count your units at the survey.
How much more does a no-lift flat cost to move?
It depends on the floor and the furniture, so there's no fixed figure. Movers usually add a per-floor labour charge for carrying, and heavy pieces like a double bed or a steel cupboard may need dismantling. A third-floor flat in an older scheme can push a 2BHK quote towards the top of the ₹6,000–₹13,500 range.
