Packers and Movers Charges from Delhi to Chennai
Budgeting for the longest haul
At typical market rates, moving from Delhi to Chennai costs ₹22,000–₹30,000 for a 1 BHK, ₹29,000–₹40,000 for a 2 BHK and ₹37,000–₹48,000 for a 3 BHK. GST, car or bike transport and insurance are extra. Freight is the largest part of any quote over this distance, so the truck type moves the total most. Skynet's own figure follows a free survey, in writing.

Compiled from 5 published price guides by Indian moving platforms and movers. Excludes GST and car or bike transport. These are not Skynet's rates: your price is the written quote we give after a free survey.
Use the table as a market reference, not a quote. The ranges come from published price guides rather than our rate card and exclude 18% GST. At 2,110 km, freight takes up most of every row, which is why the gap between shared and dedicated trucks is wider here than on shorter routes. Volume and the month you pick explain most of the rest. The table also leaves out costs that aren't the mover's but are real, like flights and a week or more of temporary stay in Chennai while the goods are on the road.
What a typical quote includes
- Survey and written estimateA free visit to your Delhi home to size the load, then a quote with each add-on listed on its own.
- Packing for a humid destinationStretch film, bubble wrap and sealed cartons so goods arrive dry after a week in a closed truck.
- Loading in DelhiOur own crew carries everything out, dismantles standard furniture and stacks the truck for a long run.
- Long-haul freightTruck, diesel, driver and FASTag tolls through seven states, normally covered by one freight line.
- Delivery in ChennaiUnloading, carrying into the flat, and placing furniture and cartons in the rooms you point out.
- Refitting furnitureBeds, tables and simple wardrobes that were taken apart in Delhi are put back together on delivery.
What usually costs extra
- Car transportSending a car on a carrier over this distance costs about ₹18,000–₹27,000 at typical market rates.
- Bike transportA motorcycle or scooter on our Bike Stand normally adds around ₹8,000–₹12,000 to the total.
- Transit insuranceOptional, usually 2–3% of the declared value, and worth pricing properly for a load that spends a week on the road.
- StorageIf the Chennai flat isn't ready on arrival, a 2 BHK load costs about ₹3,000–₹4,000 a month in storage.
- GSTMoving bills generally carry 18% GST, so check that quotes you compare treat it the same way.
- CratingCustom wooden crates for marble tops, large mirrors, glass panels or artwork that cartons can't fully protect.
- Specialist itemsPianos, treadmills, heavy safes and large aquariums need extra crew or equipment and are quoted separately.

What moves the price on this route
Freight over 2,110 km
On shorter routes, labour and packing are a big share of the bill. Here, the truck dominates. It burns diesel and pays tolls over 2,110 km, and the truck and driver are tied up for 6–9 days. Anything that changes the truck, like its size, whether you share it and how full it is, changes the total far more than a few extra cartons do.
Truck type and your temporary stay
A shared truck costs less, but it often reaches Chennai days after a dedicated one. If you're paying for a hotel or serviced apartment while you wait, add those nights to the comparison. For a family, a dedicated truck sometimes works out close to the shared option once accommodation is counted in.
Season at both ends
Demand rises from April to June and around Diwali, and crews thin out near Pongal in mid-January. October to December rain in Chennai can hold up delivery, and Delhi's winter fog slows departures. February and March avoid most of this, and that usually shows up as easier truck availability and firmer delivery dates.
Access in Chennai
A tower along OMR with a booked service lift is quick to unload. An older building in T. Nagar or Mylapore with narrow streets and no lift takes longer and may need a short carry from where the truck can stop. Tell the surveyor about the Chennai address early, so that time is priced in rather than added on the day.
What you choose to send south
Every cubic foot costs more to carry over this distance than on most routes. Winter bedding, heaters, desert coolers and heavy wooden almirahs take plenty of space and get little use in Chennai's warm weather. Deciding what stays behind before the survey lowers the volume, and sometimes lets a smaller truck do the job.
How to pay less without cutting corners
Ways to trim a Delhi to Chennai bill without risking your things:
- Move in February or March if your dates allow.
- Cut winter-only bulk before the survey. Give away heaters and vacuum-pack the razais you keep.
- Compare a dedicated truck against a shared one plus hotel nights, not on freight alone.
- Sell heavy furniture that's cheap to replace, since long-haul freight makes it expensive to keep.
- Book two or three weeks early, and avoid month-end loading.
Keep good packing for glass and electronics, though. On a trip this long, cheap packing costs more in breakage than it saves.

Delhi to Chennai charges: frequently asked questions
Straight answers to the questions customers ask us most.
Why does Delhi to Chennai cost more than shorter routes?
Mainly the freight. At about 2,110 km, the truck is tied up for 6–9 days once driving, rest and unloading slots are counted, so diesel, tolls and the driver's time all go up. Packing and labour costs don't change much with distance, which is why longer routes feel so much dearer.
Is it cheaper to sell furniture in Delhi and buy again in Chennai?
For bulky, low-value pieces, often yes. An old sofa set or a heavy steel almirah takes up truck space that costs real money over this distance. Good-quality or sentimental furniture is usually worth moving. Walk through each room with the surveyor and ask which items are pushing the volume up.
Does the quote cover waterproof packing for Chennai's rain?
It should. Ask the mover to say so in writing. Mattresses, sofas and cartons need plastic wrapping for a long trip that may end in humid or rainy weather. If you're moving between October and December, also ask how unloading is handled in a downpour, since carrying wet cartons indoors causes most rain damage.
How much is storage if my Chennai flat isn't ready?
At market rates, storing a 2 BHK load costs roughly ₹3,000–₹4,000 a month, charged on top of the move. It's useful when possession is delayed or you arrive before a lease starts. Ask whether moving goods into storage and delivering them later adds handling charges, and get that listed separately on the written quote.
Is it better to drive the car down to Chennai or ship it?
Compare them honestly. Driving means several long days, fuel, tolls, hotel nights and wear on the car across seven states. A carrier costs about ₹18,000–₹27,000 at typical market rates and leaves you free to fly. Families with small children often prefer the carrier, while some couples enjoy the drive and break it into short days.
