Packers and Movers from Delhi to Lucknow
Across the Ganga plain, planned around the clock
The road from Delhi to Lucknow is about 490 km, and a household shift normally takes 2–3 days door to door even though the driving is only around six hours. Market price guides put a 2 BHK at roughly ₹17,500–₹28,000, not counting GST. What really sets the pace is Delhi's heavy-vehicle hours and, in winter, fog across the plains.
The road east from Delhi
The fastest road route on OpenStreetMap runs east across the Gangetic plain, with Delhi and Uttar Pradesh the only two states on it. It starts on NH9 for roughly the first 50 km out of the capital, crosses the Ganga, and carries on through western and central Uttar Pradesh, passing near Budaun at about 250 km before reaching Lucknow.
It isn't the only way. Some drivers prefer to go round by Agra on the Yamuna and Agra-Lucknow expressways, and the choice on the day depends on traffic, roadworks and fog. Whichever road is used, the land is flat the whole way, with sugarcane and wheat fields on both sides and no ghats to slow a loaded truck. The hold-ups on this route are towns, tractor-trolleys and weather, not hills.
Working around Delhi's truck hours
On paper this is a one-night drive. In practice, Delhi's rules for heavy goods vehicles shape the whole plan, because big trucks can't use most city roads for much of the day. A typical move of 2–3 days goes something like this.
- Packing day in Delhi. The crew packs in daylight, with a smaller vehicle ferrying goods out if your lane is tight.
- Loading and departure. The main truck loads and leaves once heavy vehicles are allowed to move, usually late in the day.
- The drive. Roughly six hours, longer in fog or behind sugarcane traffic.
- Unloading in Lucknow. Timed to the city's own entry rules and your society's lift slot, often the next morning or the day after.
If you're taking an overnight train or a morning flight, go after the truck has left, not before. Someone should be at the Delhi house to hand over the keys and check nothing has been left in the lofts or on the balcony.
Shared truck
Fine for a PG room, a 1 BHK or a few pieces of furniture. Delhi-Lucknow part loads run often, so waits are short, but your goods share space and may come off after another family's.
Dedicated truck
Best from a 2 BHK up. It loads as soon as Delhi's heavy-vehicle hours allow, can drive through the night, and unloads in Lucknow with no other drops first.
Which truck suits a Delhi to Lucknow move?
This is a busy corridor, and part-load trucks between Delhi and Lucknow run often, so a shared truck is a reasonable option for a 1 BHK, a PG room or a few pieces of furniture. It'll usually be cheaper, and the extra wait is modest. Your cartons will be loaded alongside other families' goods, though, and unloading may come after someone else's drop in Lucknow.
With a 2 BHK or anything bigger, a dedicated truck is worth the difference. It can load the moment Delhi's timings allow and drive straight through, and nothing is shifted around on the way. For glassware and a dinner set you've had for years, ask for Perfect Box cartons, which soak up the jolts of a highway run.
Papers, tolls and taking an older car out of Delhi
- Inventory, not an e-way bill. Personal household goods normally don't need an e-way bill for an interstate move, but the driver should carry a signed list of what's in the truck, with your ID and the Lucknow address.
- FASTag. Tolls on NH9 and the roads beyond are paid electronically from the truck's tag.
- An ageing diesel or petrol car. Lucknow is outside the NCR, so Delhi's age cut-offs don't work the same way there. If your car is near or past the Delhi limit, check the rules in force, get the NOC from Delhi's transport department first, send the car on a car carrier rather than driving it out, and ask the RTO in Lucknow what it needs for re-registration.
- Staying in UP for good. A newer car will need UP registration in time, unless you qualify for a BH series number.
Fog, cane season and the summer loo
From mid-December through January, dense fog settles over the plains between Delhi and Lucknow, usually thickest from late night to mid-morning. Trucks slow right down or pull over, and Uttar Pradesh often lowers speed limits on its expressways in the fog months. A move in this season needs a wider delivery window, and we'd rather let a truck wait out the worst of it than push through.
Roughly from November to April, the sugarcane harvest fills the roads of western Uttar Pradesh with overloaded tractor-trolleys heading to the mills, many of them poorly lit after dark. That's another reason to leave slack in a winter move. Summer brings the opposite problem. The hot, dry loo wind of May and June turns a closed truck into an oven, so load early, and don't leave cartons of electronics sitting on a sunny Lucknow driveway at noon.
Builder floors in Delhi, lift slots in Lucknow
The road out starts on the east side of Delhi, so a pickup in Mayur Vihar, Preet Vihar or Laxmi Nagar gets the truck onto NH9 quickly, while a Dwarka or Vasant Kunj loading means crossing the city inside the hours heavy vehicles are allowed. Builder floors in south and west Delhi often have narrow stairs, so beds and wardrobes come apart before they go down. Our Delhi page has more on RWA rules and truck timings.
At the Lucknow end, many newer flats are in societies along Shaheed Path, Raebareli Road and in Jankipuram, where you'll need a lift booking and the truck number at the gate. Inverter batteries, coolers and water purifiers are standard in homes at both ends. Batteries hold acid, so they travel upright, disconnected and away from cartons of clothes. The Lucknow page covers the old city and the newer colonies.

Straight answers to the questions customers ask us most.
How much do packers and movers charge from Delhi to Lucknow?
Published market ranges for this route are roughly ₹14,000–₹22,000 (1 BHK), ₹17,500–₹28,000 (2 BHK) and ₹21,000–₹34,000 (3 BHK), excluding GST and vehicle transport. Stairs in a Delhi builder floor, a dedicated truck or a fog delay can push a quote up. We send our own written figure after a free survey of your home.
How many days does shifting from Delhi to Lucknow take?
Plan on 2–3 days door to door. The drive is only around six hours, but big trucks can load and leave Delhi only when heavy vehicles are allowed, and unloading in Lucknow waits for the city's entry hours and your society's lift. In December and January, fog can add most of a day.
Can I send my old diesel car from Delhi to Lucknow?
Usually, yes. Lucknow is outside the NCR, so a car that has aged out of Delhi's limits may be eligible for re-registration there, subject to Uttar Pradesh's rules. Get the NOC from Delhi's transport department first, send the car on a carrier instead of driving it, and check the Lucknow RTO's requirements before you book.
Does the truck go via Agra or a more direct road?
It depends on the day. The fastest route on OpenStreetMap heads east from Delhi on NH9 and passes near Budaun, while some drivers prefer the Yamuna and Agra-Lucknow expressways via Agra. Traffic, roadworks and fog decide it. Your move manager can tell you which road the driver has taken once the truck is on its way.
Can you pack an inverter battery and water purifier for the move?
Yes. The inverter battery is disconnected, kept upright and packed away from fabrics, since it holds acid. The RO purifier is drained and wrapped, with loose filters bagged separately. Get both reinstalled by a local technician in Lucknow, because wiring and plumbing points differ from house to house.
