Packers and Movers from Mumbai to Pune
150 km, one ghat, two society rulebooks
Mumbai to Pune is about 150 km by road, and most household moves take 1–2 days, sometimes with loading and unloading on the same day for a small flat. Pure driving time is about two hours, including the climb up the ghat to Lonavala. Typical market rates for a 2BHK are ₹14,000–₹24,000 before GST, and Skynet gives a written quote after a free survey.
A short drive with one big climb
The fastest road route from Mumbai to Pune is about 150 km, and roughly 90 km of it is on NH48. There's no state border to cross and only one real obstacle, the climb up the Western Ghats. The truck leaves Mumbai through Navi Mumbai, tops the ghat at Lonavala about 70 km along, and then runs across the plateau. Around 110 km in it passes Pimpri-Chinchwad, the side of Pune where Wakad, Ravet and Hinjewadi are.
Loaded trucks go up the ghat slowly, and on weekends and long holidays the stretch near Lonavala fills with cars heading out of Mumbai. A weekday departure almost always gives the truck an easier climb.
Does a shared truck make sense for 150 km?
Less often than on long routes. On a short run the freight is a small part of the bill, and most of what you pay goes on packing, labour and the vehicle for the day. So sharing saves less, while the wait can be long, because a shared truck may need to collect enough Pune-bound goods before it leaves. A move you could finish in a day can then take several.
Shared works for a student's room, a few cartons or just a bed and a fridge. For a whole flat, a dedicated truck usually doesn't cost much more, and it lets the crew pack, cross the ghat and unload in Pune without anyone else's stops in between. Ask for both options in the quote and compare.
Shared truck
Only worth it for a room's worth of goods or a few items. Over 150 km the saving is small, and waiting for other Pune-bound loads can turn a one-day move into several.
Dedicated truck
The usual choice for a full flat on this route. Pack and load in Mumbai, cross the ghat and unload in Pune within 1–2 days, without sharing space or stops with anyone.
When a one-day move works and when it doesn't
The drive is short, so the day is really about the work at each end. A 1BHK can often be packed, loaded, driven and unloaded in one long day. A 2BHK or 3BHK usually runs better over two.
- The crew packs everything in Mumbai and loads the truck on day one.
- The truck leaves early next morning, before traffic builds on the ghat.
- Unloading in Pune happens the same morning or afternoon, inside the new society's move-in hours.
What breaks a same-day plan is the two building windows. If the Mumbai society only lets you load in the afternoon and the Pune one stops move-ins at sunset, the truck ends up parked overnight anyway. Get both sets of timings before we fix the date.
Papers and tolls without a state border
Mumbai and Pune are both in Maharashtra, so there's no border check. Used household goods for your own use don't normally need a GST e-way bill, though the driver still carries a packing list. Tolls are paid through FASTag along the way.
Vehicles are simple too. A car or bike moving within Maharashtra keeps its MH registration, so there's no NOC and no re-registration. You only need to update the address on the RC and your insurance. Plenty of people just drive the car down themselves. If you've got two vehicles or would rather not, a bike can travel on our Bike Stand, which holds both tyres, and a car goes on a carrier. Riding the bike down is possible, but two-wheelers aren't allowed on the expressway, so it means the older road.
Monsoon on the ghat
June to September is when this route is hardest. Rain between Mumbai and Lonavala is heavy and steady, cloud sits right on the road, and the occasional landslip holds up traffic for a while. Pune gets far less rain than Mumbai, so the risky parts are the loading at your Mumbai building and the ghat itself. Monsoon moves need a buffer of a few hours, and if there's a red alert for the ghats, shifting the date by a day is usually the sensible call.
The rest of the year the drive is easy. April and May afternoons in Pune are hot, but on a two-hour run the heat inside the truck isn't a worry. Diwali, month-end and the April to June school and transfer season are the busy times, so book early for those.
The two ends of a Mumbai to Pune move
At the Mumbai end, your location decides how early the truck needs to reach you. Navi Mumbai and Chembur are close to the road out. From Borivali or Colaba, the truck spends a good chunk of the morning in city traffic before it even reaches the highway, and heavy trucks aren't allowed on some roads at certain hours. For those addresses, loading the evening before and leaving at first light often works best.
At the Pune end, homes on the Pimpri-Chinchwad side, like Wakad, Ravet, Tathawade and Hinjewadi, are reached first. Kharadi, Hadapsar, Undri and Wagholi mean crossing Pune after the highway, which adds an hour or more. Some newer projects on the edge of the city still have unfinished approach roads, so if your society is new, tell us and we'll check whether a full-size truck can reach the tower.

Mumbai to Pune move: frequently asked questions
Straight answers to the questions customers ask us most.
How much do packers and movers charge from Mumbai to Pune?
A 2BHK typically costs ₹14,000–₹24,000 at market rates, before GST. Smaller 1BHK moves come to about ₹8,500–₹15,500, and a 3BHK ₹18,500–₹29,000. On a short route like this, packing and labour are a big share of the price, so your floor, lift access and volume matter more than distance. We give a written quote after a free home survey.
How many days does shifting from Mumbai to Pune take?
Most moves take 1–2 days. A small flat can sometimes be packed, driven and unloaded in one long day. Bigger homes usually load on day one and unload in Pune the next morning. Society timings at both buildings, and monsoon or weekend traffic on the ghat, decide which of the two it'll be for you.
Do I need to re-register my car when moving from Mumbai to Pune?
No. Both cities are in Maharashtra, so the MH registration stays valid and there's no NOC to arrange. Update the address on your RC and insurance after moving. Many people simply drive the car down, which is about two hours of driving without traffic, and send only the household goods by truck.
Is the ghat safe for moving goods to Pune in the monsoon?
Yes, if the goods are packed for rain and you allow extra time. The ghat near Lonavala gets heavy rain from June to September, with low cloud and the odd landslip slowing traffic. Cartons get waterproof layers and the truck is closed. Avoid rainy weekends, when tourist traffic heading to Lonavala adds to the delay.
Can you pick up from Thane or Navi Mumbai for a Pune move?
Yes. Thane, Navi Mumbai, Kalyan and Dombivli are all covered, and Navi Mumbai homes are the closest to the road toward Pune. Our corporate office is in Vashi, so a survey there is quick to arrange. The quote and the moving-day plan work the same way as for a pickup anywhere in Mumbai.
