Packers and Movers from Mumbai to Goa

Down the Konkan coast, ghats and all

Quick answer

Mumbai to Goa is about 540 km by road, and a house move normally takes 2–3 days door to door, though the driving itself is around seven hours. Published market rates for a 2 BHK sit roughly in the ₹19,500–₹38,000 range, excluding GST. The Konkan monsoon and the Ganpati rush on NH66 decide the calendar, and village access at the Goa end often decides the truck.

NH66 down the Konkan

Almost the whole trip is on one road. The fastest route on OpenStreetMap follows NH66 for about 470 km of the roughly 540, running south through Maharashtra's Konkan and into Goa. It's a coastal route in name, but you rarely see the sea from it. Most of the way it winds inland through hills, river valleys and ghats, past mango and cashew orchards on the slopes.

It passes Mangaon in Raigad district at about 130 km, runs near Sangameshwar at around 270 km, and comes within reach of Rajapur in Ratnagiri district at roughly 400 km. Widening work on stretches of NH66 has dragged on for years, so depending on progress you may still find diversions and freshly opened sections side by side. Loaded trucks are slow on the ghat climbs, which is why the seven or so hours of driving can stretch well beyond that for a heavy truck.

Where the extra days go

Seven hours at the wheel becomes 2–3 days door to door because of what happens at each end and on the ghats in between. A typical plan looks like this.

  • Pack and load in Mumbai during the day, within your society's permitted hours.
  • Leave the city when goods vehicles are allowed out, often after dark, and cover the Konkan overnight or the next day.
  • Unload in Goa in daylight, which matters for village houses where a smaller vehicle or hand-carrying finishes the job.

If your new place is down a lane in Bardez or Salcete, expect the unloading to take longer than the loading did. Anything carried in from the main road adds hours, and it's far better done in the morning than as the light fades.

Shared truck

Works for a few items or a small 1 BHK when dates are loose. Fewer shared loads run to Goa, so filling the truck can add days, and a big one may not reach a village lane.

Dedicated truck

Usually the better option for a family. Pick a truck size that can reach your Goan gate, load in Mumbai, and your goods come off once, right at your door.

Shared truck or dedicated for Goa?

Fewer part loads tend to head to Goa than to Pune or Gujarat, so a shared truck can sit in Mumbai for a while before there's enough to send. For a few pieces of furniture, a student, or a small 1 BHK with flexible dates, the saving can still be worth it. Just don't choose shared if you need your things on a particular day.

For a family home, a dedicated truck usually works better, and on this route the size of the truck matters as much as the type. A very large truck may not get down a narrow Goan village road, which means unloading on the main road and shuttling everything in. A mid-size truck that can reach your gate often saves more hours than it costs. Furniture travels under our reusable Fabric Sheet covers, which also keep off Konkan dust and damp.

Paperwork, tolls and crossing into Goa

  • Your carton list. Used household goods for personal use normally don't need an e-way bill. If the truck is checked at the Goa border, the signed inventory and a copy of your ID are what the driver shows.
  • Tolls. Any tolls on the way are paid through the truck's FASTag.
  • Your car. Plenty of people drive their own car down and send only the household goods. If you'd rather not, car transport needs RC, insurance and PUC copies. Settling in Goa for good means re-registering an MH car there in time, or a BH series number if you qualify.
  • The gas connection. LPG cylinders can't go in the truck. Get a transfer voucher from your Mumbai distributor, or surrender the connection, and register with a distributor in Goa.

Monsoon, Ganpati and the best months

The Konkan gets some of the heaviest rain in the country from June to September. Rivers near Sangameshwar and Rajapur run high, ghat sections see small landslides, and a day's drive can stretch into two. Moves still happen, with everything wrapped waterproof, but if you can pick your month, October to May is far easier on this road.

The other date to steer clear of is Ganesh Chaturthi. In the days around it, huge numbers of Mumbai families drive home to their Konkan villages on NH66, and heavy vehicles are often barred from the highway for several days. A truck booked into that window can end up stuck in Mumbai. October and November, after the rain and before Goa's year-end tourist crowd, tend to be the sweet spot.

Leaving a Mumbai flat, arriving at a Goan house

NH66 starts on the Navi Mumbai side of the harbour, so a loading in Vashi, Nerul or Panvel gets the truck on its way quickly, while one in the western suburbs means crossing the city first. If you're swapping a compact Mumbai flat for a Goan house, it's normal to ship less than the new place needs and buy the rest locally. Our Mumbai page covers the NOC and lift side of leaving.

In Goa, an old house that has been shut through a monsoon can be damp inside, and termites are common where there are wooden rafters and door frames. Have it aired out and checked before the truck comes, and keep wooden furniture a few inches off damp walls for the first weeks. For delivery to Parra, Saligao or Loutolim, tell us about the lane and the gate at the survey. More on Goan homes and seasons is on our Goa page.

Mumbai to Goa move: frequently asked questions

Straight answers to the questions customers ask us most.

How much do packers and movers charge from Mumbai to Goa?

Published market rates run about ₹14,500–₹24,000 for a one-bedroom flat, ₹19,500–₹38,000 for two bedrooms and ₹30,000–₹49,000 for three, before GST. Village access in Goa, a walk-up in Mumbai or monsoon wrapping can push a quote higher. Skynet quotes in writing after a free survey, with any add-ons listed separately so you can see them.

How many days does shifting from Mumbai to Goa take?

Usually 2–3 days from loading to unloading. The drive down NH66 is around seven hours, but loading has to fit your Mumbai society's hours, heavy trucks are slow on the Konkan ghats, and unloading at a Goan village house is best done in daylight. During the monsoon, plan for the longer end.

Can I move to Goa around Ganesh Chaturthi?

It's best not to. In the days around Ganesh Chaturthi, traffic from Mumbai to the Konkan on NH66 is enormous, and heavy vehicles are often kept off the highway for several days. A truck booked into that window can be stuck in Mumbai. Pick a date at least a week either side of the festival.

Should I drive to Goa and send only the household goods?

Plenty of people do, and at around seven hours of driving it's very manageable. The car goes with you and the truck carries just the household. Keep the RC, insurance and PUC in the glovebox, set off once loading is signed off, and you'll reach Goa ahead of the truck with time to open up the house.

Can the truck deliver to South Goa as well as North Goa?

Yes, the same truck covers both. Delivery to Margao, Vasco or Canacona just means carrying on south after entering Goa, and it stays part of the same move. What matters more than north or south is the last few hundred metres, so tell the surveyor whether a big truck can actually reach your gate.
